An estimated 3 million violent crimes occur each year in which victims perceive the offender to have been consuming alcohol at the time of the offense.
According to a national survey, 70% of alcohol binge drinking episodes involve adults age 26 years and older.
Alcohol is made as plant sugars in fruits come into contact with a fungus called yeast and they begin to ferment; as they rot, they will excrete a toxic substance called ethanol or ethyl alcohol--or simply alcohol. In the fermentation process, the yeast continues to feed on the plant sugars, thus the alcohol concentration levels rise; once these levels get closer to 14 percent, the yeast dies, quite literally, of alcohol poisoning.
Alcohol in moderation has been known to increase digestion, but this may be due to its relaxing effect; in higher "doses", alcohol can cause inflammation of the stomach lining, which is one of the primary reasons that an individual may experience heartburn and nausea the day after a bout with binge drinking.
